Members

Division of Rehabilitation Psychology

Israel Psychological Association

Dear Colleagues:

I want to start by thanking your President for the gracious invitation to address

members of your association and to explore possible areas of collaboration

between our two organizations.

Let me start by sharing a little bit about the Division of Rehabilitation Psychology

of the American Psychology Association (APA). Our Division, i.e., 22, was

established in 1958. The Division is concerned with enhancing the lives of adults

and children with disabilities and chronic illness. To this end, the Division brings

together rehabilitation psychologists to advance practice, research, education, and

advocacy. We

now have over 1100 members. You can le

arn more about our

Division from

http://www.apadivisions.org/d

ivision-22/

.

You will find that we are

a friendly and diverse community of practitioners, educators, researchers and

leaders who are open to new ideas and practices.

One Division event I would like to highlight is our annual winter meeting. This

coming year it will be in sunny San Diego from February 26 to March 1. I invite

you to attend. If you have not taken part in any Division events before, this is the

one event that I single out because I see that those who attend once keep coming

back.

The conference schedule is posted

here:

http://www.abpp.org/i4a/pages

/index.cfm?pageid=3574

. It will be worth the

trip!

I also invite you to become an International Affiliate of the Division. Benefits of

affiliate status include a subscription to the leading journal in our field,

Rehabilitation Psychology

, reduced registration fees to our conferences, and

access to our active and collegial listserv.

I am eager for our two organizations to build relationships with one another. I

agree with your President that we have lessons to teach other. For example, I

believe that we can certainly benefit from the extensive experience that Israeli

rehabilitation psychologists have with veterans and civilians who have suffered

disabling injuries as the result of armed conflict.

Let me sign off by wishing you an illuminating and inspiring annual conference!

Shalom,

Gitendra Uswatte, PhD

President
