רציפות בשגרת חייו, הוא ייטה להתייחס אל הקושי כאל קושי
זמני, נקודתי וחולף. ככזה, קל לו יותר להתמודד עימו ולבצע
אינטגרציה של הקושי בתוך מרקם חייו. לעומת זאת, כאשר
קיימות קטיעות בסביבתו של המתבגר (למשל מעברי מגורים
תכופים, או תפקוד משפחתי לקוי), כך יקשה עליו לבצע מסגור
Nuttman-של הקושי בתוך ההקשר הרחב יותר של חייו (

המתבגר יגלה נכונות רבה יותר לבוא במגע עם המחשבות
והרגשות המתעוררים בעקבות הקושי, ויטה פחות לפתח דפוס
התמכרותי שמקהה את תחושות הסבל.
בני נוער עסוקים ללא הרף בחיפוש ובחקירה של זהותם
העצמית, של הזולת ושל העולם סביבם. ככל שנסייע להם
לפתח מערכת משמעות מכוונת עתיד שתספק מסגרת לארגון
תמונת העולם ולהתמודדות מול קושי ונתמוך בה באופן פעיל,
קטן הסיכון שהחיפוש שלהם יוביל להתמכרות.
